We laugh every day. We meet friends every day. We get what we want every day. Yet… why does our heart remain unhappy?
We pray daily. We supplicate to Allah sincerely. We ask with all our hearts. But… why is it so difficult for our prayers to be accepted, even though Allah has promised:
“Call upon Me; I will answer you.”
A Heart Wrapped in Unease
Our hearts are not at peace because we never truly appreciate what we have. We fail to be grateful for every blessing we receive. We focus so much on what we do not have that we forget to notice the blessings around us.
A Soul in Struggle
We constantly ask from Allah, yet we rarely seek His forgiveness, even though our sins are countless. How shameful that is.
We lament and plead for our prayers to be answered. Yet, once ease comes, we forget Allah. We fail to show gratitude. And when hardship returns, only then do we remember Allah — crying, pleading, asking Him to notice us. How can Allah accept our prayers if we act this way?
Reflect for a moment. How many times do we truly say words of gratitude in a day? Even just for a single day, how often do we remember to give thanks?
Do we wake in the night to pray optional prayers, tahajjud, or repentance prayers? Maybe in school days, when woken by a warden. Or before exams, praying for success. But after the result comes, do we bow in gratitude? Often, we forget.
The Sweetness of Good Deeds
We do good every day. We help others. We give charity. We perform countless acts of kindness. Yet why do we not feel the sweetness of these deeds? Why does our heart remain restless?
Because our hearts lack sincerity (ikhlas). Our lips may speak sincerity, but our hearts say otherwise.
We help others seeking reward, praise, or recognition. We boast about every good deed. How can the heart be at peace?
When we succeed, we become proud. We show off, forgetting Who truly gave us this success.
Our Responsibility as Humans
How shameful it is… Allah created us as caliphs on this earth. We are the finest of creation, so honored that all creatures bowed to our father, Prophet Adam — except Iblis. Allah exalted humankind. Yet, we fail to protect ourselves. We forget our responsibility as servants of Allah. We forget the Creator. We ignore the blessings He has given us.
Even Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), at the moment angels came to take his soul, still thought of his people: “My Ummah! My Ummah!” Such was his love for us. And yet… we forget the Prophet. How heavy it feels to let our tongue bless him.
The Path to Resolve This Restlessness
Soften your heart. Submit yourself to Allah. Be grateful for the blessings Allah has lent you — all of them are temporary. At any moment, Allah can take them away. Perform every act with sincerity.
Only Allah can truly judge the sincerity of our hearts. InshaAllah, when we purify our hearts, we will taste the sweetness of faith itself.
Be calm, oh heart… be at peace.
Wallahualam
